Roseberry Topping and Pine trees
Roseberry Topping and Pine trees

As many landscape photographers will know I cannot take any of the credit for this location and view point. This is the one view perhaps more than any other that is synonymous with master photographer Joe Cornish being in walking distance of his home town.

Never the less I was thrilled to discover this spot whilst on holiday on the North York Moors and cliche or not I just had to make a photograph of it.
I was surprised to find that the small patch of grassland in front of these pines is just that and immediately behind where my tripod sat for this shot was a drop into a disused quarry and it didn't leave much room for a different interpretation of this view in any case.

I spent two or three hours by the tripod waiting for the sun to drop and an interesting cloudscape to fill the sky (much to my wifes annoyance) but I couldn't leave this holy grail of locations without a record of my own. Unfortunately despite trying hard I'm not entirely happy with it. The composition works as its essentially a copy of Joes but the post winter grass, quality of the light, the sky? Somehow it doesn't sit right together. Its not terrible but not great either. I will hopefully get the chance to return for another go.
